Energy Procurement
Energy represents one of the largest single costs for NHS Trusts. It is also arguably the area of cost over which a Trust is able to exert the least control.
With the exception of small local energy saving initiatives, the amount of energy used is all but fixed in both the short and medium term. Whilst in the long term,
energy conscious infrastructure and asset acquisition decision can have an impact on energy usage, the only way to drive down energy costs in any meaningful way in
the short term is to focus on the cost paid per unit of energy.
Of course, Trusts are focused on this area and there are numerous framework agreements that seek to translate the buying power of the NHS into lower energy costs.
But energy procurement is a complex area and our experience is that a different approach can deliver significant savings on a Trust by Trust basis.
Working with leading energy procurement specialists, Leaseguard offer NHS clients access to our Energy Programme, a proven solution to driving down energy costs,
specifically Gas and Electricity. Following an in-depth study of a Trust's usage of energy and the infrastructure used to deliver it, we are able to configure a
procurement methodology that can result in significant energy savings when compared to framework agreements.
Based on spot purchasing of energy, rather than framework agreements, energy costs can be reduced by between 20-40%. And, in common with most Leaseguard services,
we are able to offer the Energy Programme on a zero risk basis with any fees resulting solely from proven savings generated.
